How does Indochino sizing actually work?

What Indochino publishes
- No off-the-rack suit size chart exists as of September 2026. The measurements page is the size chart: "It takes less than 10 minutes and can be done from the comfort of your home."1
- The 14 measurements collected: neck, shoulder, bicep, arm length, wrist, torso length, chest, stomach, natural waist, hip, inseam, rise, thigh, knee.1
- It also asks for posture settings, a pattern input almost no competitor collects, with its own help article explaining why.2
- Body, not garment: "we use your body measurements to create your unique clothing pattern". The house ease is added by Indochino afterwards.3
- Where people go wrong, in the brand's own words. Copying an existing suit: "Our measurement systems don't line up with the off the rack measurements most people are used to", and the answer to "Can I use the measurements from a suit I own?" is no.43
- Trusting your labelled waist: Indochino states off-the-rack waist labels can be out by up to 4 inches, citing a labelled size 33 that measured 36.5".3
- Leg length: "off the rack leg length tends to be measured from the inseam (from the undercrotch to ankle)" whereas Indochino works from the outseam, "from the hip down". Note that the public measurements page nonetheless walks you through an inseam step "straight down to the floor" — the two brand pages do not use the same word for the same measurement, which is itself a source of confusion.31
- Published size limits, and they differ by channel. In store: minimum chest 69 cm / 27" and stomach 61 cm / 24", maximum chest 155.4 cm / 61" and stomach 147 cm / 57.9". - No consensus on runs small versus runs large — the reported misses go both ways, which is what a pattern cut per order rather than a graded size run would produce. Trustpilot shows a 3.8/5 TrustScore from 2,186 reviews (64% five-star, 18% one-star), with recent fit complaints including "The jacket was noticeably too long and quite large through the body" and "Shoulder seams are 1.5 inches too narrow on either side! The inseam is too short to touch my dress shoes!"8
- Older forum reports describe the same both-directions pattern — shoulders too square and the chest "overly full" alongside sleeves an inch short. Those posts date from 2011–2020 and predate the current pattern engine, so they are cited for the pattern of complaints, not the current product.9
If you get it wrong
- Claims must be raised within 14 days of receiving the order, and made-to-measure garments are not returnable or refundable. The remedy is a showroom "Final Look" appointment or a reimbursement toward a local tailor: $75 two-piece, $100 three-piece, $50 jacket, $25 pants.7
- The practical consequence of the no-return rule: there is no size to exchange, so the measuring session, not the size choice, is the decision that matters. Measure yourself rather than transcribing a garment, and answer the posture questions honestly.13
