Who Owns Which Suit Brand? Men's Wearhouse, Jos. A. Bank, Brooks Brothers and 15 More (2026)

A current, sourced ownership map of 20 menswear brands -- including four changes from the last 20 months that most published answers still get wrong.

Who Owns Which Suit Brand? Men's Wearhouse, Jos. A. Bank, Brooks Brothers and 15 More (2026) — bespoke suits and custom tailored suits by Nathan Tailors, the Hoi An custom tailor

Here is the short answer, and it is not the one most of the internet still gives. Men's Wearhouse, Jos. A. Bank, K&G and Moores are all one company -- Tailored Brands -- and that company is controlled by a Greenwich credit fund called Silver Point Capital, which filed in 2026 to take it public again on Nasdaq under the ticker MENW.12 Brooks Brothers is no longer owned by "SPARC Group" -- SPARC merged with JCPenney in January 2025 to form Catalyst Brands.5 Hugo Boss now has Mike Ashley's Frasers Group as its largest shareholder at about 47.89%.3 And Suitsupply has had no private-equity stake since 2024 -- founder Fokke de Jong bought the investor out and owns 100%.7

I am Jay. I spent about ten years in the US -- Pennsylvania, New York, Houston -- buying suits from most of the stores on this page. Then I came to Hoi An as a customer, liked the shop so much I stayed, and now I partner with Nathan Tailors, where Linda has been cutting cloth for 25 years. I read filings before I read fabric swatches, so this is the piece I wish I had had in that Houston mall.

The map: who owns which suit brand in September 2026

One row per brand, with the owner, when that ownership started, and the source. Where a brand publishes nothing about its owner, "not disclosed" is the finding.

Men's Wearhouse and Jos. A. Bank: same company, separate wallets

Yes, they are the same company. Tailored Brands' 2026 registration statement names its banners plainly: "The Men's Wearhouse ('TMW'), Jos. A. Bank Clothiers ('JAB'), Moores Clothing ('Moores'), and K&G Fashion Superstore ('K&G')" -- over 1,000 stores across the US and Canada, with a plan to add more than 500 more over ten years.1 The SEC registrant is "Tailored Brands, Inc. / DE", ticker MENW, headquartered at 530 7th Avenue in New York, no longer Houston.2

Now the part that catches people out. Common ownership does not travel into your wallet. Men's Wearhouse's own gift-card page scopes redemption to "any Men's Wearhouse or Men's Wearhouse and Tux store, and Men's Wearhouse Outlet stores."11 Jos. A. Bank's own page scopes redemption to "josbank.com, through our catalog, or in any of our retail stores."12 Neither policy mentions the other brand. So the honest formulation is: neither published gift-card policy permits redemption at the sibling brand. I am not going to tell you what a specific cashier will do -- I am telling you what the two companies publish.

Where the shared ownership genuinely shows up is the back office: one rental platform serving all the banners, six rental distribution centres, what the filing calls one of the largest industrial dry-cleaning facilities in North America, and alterations described as a company-wide service with on-site tailors.1 That is a corporate capability, not a promise that a jacket bought at one banner is altered at another -- the filing does not say that, so I will not either.

Two things I could not verify, and so will not claim in either direction: cross-brand returns and whether the loyalty programme is shared. Both retailers' returns pages block automated reading, and the filing mentions "our customer loyalty program" only in a privacy risk factor -- suggestive, not proof.

Joseph Abboud: the name is rented, not owned

This one confuses shoppers because the suits hang in Men's Wearhouse. Tailored Brands sold the Joseph Abboud trademarks to WHP Global for $115 million, closing in March 2020, and took a licence back for exclusive rights to sell and rent the apparel in the US and Canada.9 The two later extended and expanded that partnership.10 So: WHP owns the name; Tailored Brands pays to use it.

The filing lists "Joseph Abboud, Pronto Uomo, and Egara" together as private and exclusive brands1 -- flattening a licensed-in designer name and two house labels into one phrase. Keep three things apart in this industry: who owns the trademark, who operates the stores, and who sews the garment.

Brooks Brothers: Catalyst Brands, not SPARC

Most published answers stop at 2020, when Brooks Brothers was sold out of Chapter 11 to Authentic Brands Group and SPARC Group for $325 million, with a commitment to keep at least 125 stores open.6 In January 2025 SPARC merged with JCPenney to form Catalyst Brands, and Brooks Brothers now sits inside it alongside JCPenney, Aéropostale, Eddie Bauer, Lucky Brand and Nautica. Catalyst launched as an all-equity joint venture with more than $9 billion of revenue and 1,800 stores, backed by Simon Property Group, Brookfield Corporation, ABG and Shein.5

Two mall landlords are quietly among the largest owners of American menswear: Simon and Brookfield sit behind Brooks Brothers through Catalyst, and behind Bonobos through Phoenix Retail.524 Brooks Brothers and Ted Baker also share a trademark owner in ABG25 -- same brand owner, separate operations, no published cross-brand benefit.

Hugo Boss: a British retail group now holds just under half

Hugo Boss's own shareholder page lists Frasers Group at 48%, the Marzotto family's PFC S.p.A. and Zignago Holding at around 14%, and a 38% free float.4 The precise figure, from the takeover-result release of 18 August 2026 after EU merger clearance, is 33,054,959 of 69,016,167 shares -- about 47.89% of capital and voting rights.3

Careful with the wording: that is a commanding position, not a majority. Nobody "owns" Hugo Boss outright. And one number the company publishes about itself is more useful to a suit buyer than any of this: 17% of HUGO BOSS products are produced at its own factories, so 83% come from independent suppliers.26 A claim against interest, published by the brand. I respect that more than a heritage story.

The Black Tux vs Generation Tux: not the same company

Separate legal entities, separate ownership, always have been. The Black Tux's own terms bind you to "The Black Tux, LLC"13; Generation Tux's site carries the copyright line of "Tux Wholesale Services LLC."14

The confusion is real, but its source is a person. George Zimmer founded Men's Wearhouse, was removed in 2013, then founded Generation Tux -- a direct competitor to the company he built, and it still maintains a founder page for him.14 The link is biography and rivalry, not ownership. Nobody owns both. And do not repeat the "Black Tux bought Generation Tux" line -- I looked for a release, a filing or a trade-press report, and found none.

Menguin muddies it further: databases record Generation Tux acquiring Menguin in 2017, while Menguin's own terms still identify it as "Menguin, Inc. and its wholly owned subsidiaries" and mention neither rental brand.32 Neither company documents the current relationship publicly.

Two more name mix-ups worth clearing up

Hockerty is Tailor4Less, renamed. Same company, new name -- a rare "are they the same?" question with a clean yes. Founded in 2008 in Zürich by three Catalan friends, and its Crunchbase profile is still filed under the slug "tailor4less", which is its own quiet corroboration.1617

Suitsupply is not SuitShop. Suitsupply is Dutch; since a 2024 refinancing its founder Fokke de Jong holds 100% of the stock, having bought out NPM Capital, which had invested close to €100 million from 2017.78 SuitShop is American, founder-owned by Jeanne and Diana Ganz, built around buying rather than renting -- "yours-to-keep" is their own phrase.15 Two countries, two companies, one unfortunate pair of names. Anyone still writing that private equity holds a stake in Suitsupply is two years behind.

What ownership tells you -- and what it doesn't

My honest read: ownership tells you who captures the margin and who sets the strategy. It tells you almost nothing about how your jacket is made. Tailored Brands refers only to "third-party manufacturers" and "vendors outside of the United States" -- no named factory, no named country, no owned-factory claim anywhere in the document.1 It does call itself vertically integrated, but in context that means rental logistics and dry cleaning, not garment making.

So when someone tells you Men's Wearhouse and Jos. A. Bank suits come out of the same factory, they are guessing. What is verifiable is narrower and still useful: same company, one corporate sourcing function, and both several layers removed from whoever holds the needle.

The alternative nobody's holding company owns

I ended up in Hoi An because I got tired of paying for the layers rather than the garment. At Nathan Tailors there is no trademark licensor, no mall landlord, no brand-management group taking a royalty. Linda runs the cutting table, our tailors work international orders every day rather than a few a week, and a two-piece wool suit runs $149 to $309 garment-only as of September 2026, half-canvas standard, shipping quoted separately. You measure at home with our guided measurement studio, and every suit ships with seam allowances and spare cloth so a local tailor can fine-tune it later at your cost -- full picture on our custom suits page.

That is not the right answer for everyone. It is the right answer if you have three weeks and would rather your money go into cloth than into a corporate structure. Come in person and Linda will greet you with "Why are you so handsome?!" before you have got your jacket off, which is the one part of this business no holding company has figured out how to license.

Frequently asked questions

Who owns Men's Wearhouse in 2026?

Tailored Brands, Inc., controlled by investment funds managed by Silver Point Capital, L.P. The 2026 registration statement says it will be a "controlled company" under Nasdaq rules after the offering -- meaning Silver Point holds more than half the voting power. The exact percentage was left blank in the pre-pricing document.1

Are Men's Wearhouse and Jos. A. Bank the same company?

Yes. Both are named banners of Tailored Brands, alongside K&G and Moores.1 But their published gift-card policies each scope redemption to their own stores and website, with no cross-brand statement.1112

Is The Black Tux the same as Generation Tux?

No. They are separate companies -- The Black Tux, LLC and Tux Wholesale Services LLC -- with separate ownership.1314 The confusion comes from George Zimmer, who founded Men's Wearhouse and later founded Generation Tux.14

Who owns Brooks Brothers now?

Catalyst Brands, formed when SPARC Group merged with JCPenney in January 2025. Its shareholders are Simon Property Group, Brookfield Corporation, Authentic Brands Group and Shein, with ABG holding the trademark side.5

Does Frasers Group own Hugo Boss?

Not outright. Following its voluntary takeover offer, Frasers held about 47.89% of Hugo Boss's share capital and voting rights as of 18 August 2026 -- the largest shareholder by a wide margin, but just under half.3

The bottom line

Four of the biggest facts on this page changed in the last twenty months, which is why so much of what you read elsewhere is wrong: Tailored Brands filed to go public again in 2026, Frasers took its Hugo Boss position in August 2026, SPARC became Catalyst Brands in January 2025, and Fokke de Jong bought out his investor in 2024. I have dated every claim so you can tell when it goes stale, because it will. And if all this leaves you thinking there are an awful lot of hands between the sewing machine and the price tag -- that was the point. Come say hello, or just message us and ask an honest question. No upsell.

Being a short and stocky person, I could never truly get clothing that fitted properly. "Off the rack" was never an option... As I opened the small box, I got nervous and wondered if I made a big mistake and basically gambled away a fair amount of money. I ordered a 3 piece suit, 2 shirts and had a pair of leather dress shoes. Everything fitted nicely... the shirts were absolutely PERFECT.

Exceptional experience from start to finish. I ordered a fully custom two-piece double-breasted suit remotely from France, Linda and Jennifer guided me through every step with patience and professionalism. The suit arrived in under 3 weeks and the result is flawless: fabric, cut, lining, silhouette, everything is perfect. Nathan Tailors delivered exactly the vision I had in mind. I will absolutely be ordering again. Highly recommended.

This was my first time buying suits online so I was a bit apprehensive. However, the online order form was both easy to use and very thorough, and they did a video call with me to make sure of a couple of measurements that were out of the normal range. Two suits and a shirt arrived here in New Zealand in less than two weeks, are well-made, and fit perfectly. I'm thrilled with the service.

Dressing well is a form of good manners.
