Corleone: the decision is restraint
The Godfather wardrobe is a handful of near-identical dark suits whose power comes from refusing to decorate itself. Black is the least forgiving cloth on the wall -- every ripple of excess shows -- so it punishes a rack fit hardest. The decision: one dark colour, one dark tie, one white square, everything else spent on fit.
- Cut: single-breasted, two-button, structured shoulder, clean chest.

Shelby: the decision is trouser rise
Peaky Blinders is set in 1920s Birmingham,3 and the silhouette hangs on a decision most modern suits abandoned: the trouser sits at the natural waist and the waistcoat covers the join, so the figure reads as one line from collar to boot. Drop the rise to the hip and it collapses into a costume. The collarless shirt and cap are styling; the rise is the tailoring.

Draper: the decision is the shoulder
Strip away the cigarette and the Mad Men suit is a plain grey business suit that reads as authority for one reason: the shoulder. Not the puckered Neapolitan shirt-shoulder, not the boxy 1960s sack, but the middle -- a light pad, a smooth sleevehead, one straight line from neck to sleeve. Be specific about it when you order.
- Cut: single-breasted, two-button, single vent, trim but never skinny.
- Lapel: slim notch, about 7.5-8 cm.
- Cloth: smooth, matte worsted wool blend, mid-weight.
- Colour: mid-grey or charcoal; navy as the second suit.
- Trouser: flat front, mid-rise, gentle taper, slight or no break.

Specter: the decision is the lapel
If you change one thing to get the Suits look, change the lapel. A notch -- the default on nearly every rack suit -- reads as office wear; a peak, its points sweeping toward the shoulder, reads as deliberate and formal. It is the detail most men never specify, because a single-breasted peak lapel is a made-to-order choice. On our pattern it costs nothing extra.

Sinatra and the Rat Pack: the decision is the cloth
This is the one look where the cloth is the whole argument. Sharkskin weaves two colours of yarn into one twill so the suit shifts as you move; a wool-mohair blend holds a crease and throws a dry, glassy sheen under stage light. The skinny tie and the orange square are styling. Smooth Criminal: the decision is the buttoning stance
This is the MJ look that is tailoring first. The 1988 short film, part of Moonwalker and directed by Colin Chilvers,4 put its lead in a 1930s-register white double-breasted: six buttons showing, two that fasten, wide peaks, high pleated trousers. The decision is stance -- a 6x2 closes high and wraps the chest, so it demands a structured shoulder and a proper canvas. Go 4x2 for a cleaner read; never 8x2. And order ivory, not stark white, which turns blue under tungsten light and exposes every flaw in a fused chest.

Motown 25: the decision is chest ease
Broadcast on NBC on May 16, 1983 to over 47 million viewers,2 the Billie Jean performance was danced in a black suit that sat close to the body without ever looking tight. That is chest ease -- the few centimetres between "cut to you" and "painted on" -- and every rack suit gets it wrong in one direction or the other. The 2026 biopic premiere turned the same black suit into the night's uniform with a red armband. The armband comes off; the suit is for the next decade.
- Cut: single-breasted, two-button, close through the chest with room to move, lightly padded natural shoulder.
- Lapel: notch at 7.5-8 cm.

Thriller: the decision is colour as quotation
The Thriller jacket was designed by Deborah Nadoolman Landis,5 and under the leather and chevrons it is military tailoring: a squared shoulder and an assertive lapel line. You cannot wear the jacket anywhere but a costume party; you can wear the decision. Translate the red to a burgundy wool blazer with a peak lapel and a built shoulder over black trousers: the room supplies the reference, you supply the tailoring. After the screening it is a blazer that goes to the office with grey trousers.

Euphoria season 3: the decision is proportion
Season three threw out the glitter and dressed its cast as adults, with one decision: proportion in the middle. Lapels at 3-3.5 inches, when the disco-revival crowd is at 4 and the stealth-wealth crowd at 2.5. Rise at 10.5-11.5 inches. A soft shoulder with 3-5 mm of padding. Nothing skinny, nothing oversized, everything where classical menswear says it sits -- which after a decade of low-rise everything reads as radical. It works on the most bodies, so it is the one we suggest as a first commission.

The Met Gala: the decision is structure
The 2026 "Costume Art" carpet gave menswear five stealable moves -- the all-ivory suit, the coloured dinner jacket, tone-on-tone jacquard, the modern double-breasted, and the deconstructed soft suit. The last one teaches the decision the others assume: how much structure lives inside the jacket. A soft, unlined, natural-shoulder suit that fits looks intentionally relaxed; a size off, it looks borrowed. With no canvas to hide behind, the pattern has to be right.
- Cut: minimal or no shoulder pad, unlined or half-lined, a touch more room in the chest.
- Lapel: soft notch; peak if you go double-breasted instead.
- Cloth: soft wool blend, wool-linen, or wool-cashmere -- it must drape on its own.
- Colour: cream or ivory for the statement; navy, olive or camel for every day.
- Trouser: wider leg, gentle break, no ankle crop.

One honest note: we cut only from our own cloth library, so "sharkskin" or "tweed" means the closest weave on our wall, not a named mill. If we do not stock it, we say so before you pay.
