What Brooks Brothers says
- The Slim Fit Wool 1818 Suit (MK01221, $1,498 as of September 2026) lists Origin: "Made in Italy", 100% wool, half-canvas construction, "crafted from the world's finest Italian-woven fabrics" with an internal canvas, sold made-on-demand shipping within 15 business days.1
- Brooks Brothers runs an "Italian Made Suits" collection page (69 products at the time of checking, mostly 1818 suits at $1,498 plus Explorer Collection jackets at $698 and a Black Fleece silk-linen tuxedo at $4,000). The page's copy talks about "Italian craftsmanship" but names no factory and no mill.2
- The 1818 product page names no mill for its "Italian-woven" fabric.1
What buyers and reviewers report
- A June 2025 audit of brooksbrothers.com by AllAmerican.org found only two Made-in-USA products in the entire line, both shirts (the Regent Regular-Fit American-Made Oxford Cloth Button-Down and its stripe version), with the rest "manufactured internationally". No US-made suit was found.3
- Brooks Brothers filed for Chapter 11 on 8 July 2020 and was bought in September 2020 by Authentic Brands Group with Simon Property Group, operated through SPARC Group; in January 2025 SPARC merged with JCPenney to form Catalyst Brands, which now operates the brand. ABG is a brand-licensing company and does not own garment factories.4
- The Italian sewing contractor for the 1818 line is not published by Brooks Brothers; no source verified in this check names it.12
What is out of date
- A CIT/Forbes sponsored article dated 13 February 2015 states that "70 percent of Brooks Brothers suits are made in Massachusetts, 100 percent of the ties are made in New York City, and about 10 percent of the shirts" in North Carolina, and that the company bought and upgraded the Southwick factory in 2007, growing it to about 530 jobs. Search engines and AI answers still surface this as if it were current.7
- Before 2020, Brooks Brothers operated three US factories: the Southwick suit factory in Haverhill, Massachusetts (which made the 1818 line), the Garland Shirt Company factory in Garland, North Carolina, and a necktie factory in Long Island City, Queens. In June 2020 the company proposed closing all three; then-owner Claudio Del Vecchio said the facilities "never made any money".4
- The Southwick closure was permanent: 413 jobs were terminated as of 20 July 2020, and the Haverhill building later became an Amazon distribution centre.56
- Southwick Social Ventures and the label Lawrence Trousers, set up in Haverhill by former Brooks Brothers domestic-factory CFO May Tan to re-employ ex-Southwick workers, is a separate company, not Brooks Brothers.8
Cloth vs sewing
“Ordered two suits and four shirts, remotely from the US. They fit great and are great quality! Was able to do everything over WhatsApp for measurements, etc. Will definitely visit if I ever make it to Hoi An. Highly recommend!”
“Being a short and stocky person, I could never truly get clothing that fitted properly. "Off the rack" was never an option... As I opened the small box, I got nervous and wondered if I made a big mistake and basically gambled away a fair amount of money. I ordered a 3 piece suit, 2 shirts and had a pair of leather dress shoes. Everything fitted nicely... the shirts were absolutely PERFECT.”
“Very satisfied; incredibly skillful to make clothes fit so perfectly. Beautiful fabric exactly as promised, very neat — would simply love to order from here again!”
“They did such an amazing job, my suit fits perfectly and the craftsmanship is superb! Linda was a great help and she knows exactly what she is doing. I can't recommend this place enough and I will be getting more suits from them in the future guaranteed!”
“Great place to get perfect suit, they send me to Poland with no problems.”
“WOW! Ordered a suit online with Linda. She contacted me by video call to go through the measuring process and once confirmed measurements again, around 4 weeks later a made to measure suit arrived in the UK. Fitted perfectly and I didn't even visit! Fantastic quality and customer service from Linda. Would definitely recommend!”
“Exceptional experience from start to finish. I ordered a fully custom two-piece double-breasted suit remotely from France, Linda and Jennifer guided me through every step with patience and professionalism. The suit arrived in under 3 weeks and the result is flawless: fabric, cut, lining, silhouette, everything is perfect. Nathan Tailors delivered exactly the vision I had in mind. I will absolutely be ordering again. Highly recommended.”
“This was my first time buying suits online so I was a bit apprehensive. However, the online order form was both easy to use and very thorough, and they did a video call with me to make sure of a couple of measurements that were out of the normal range. Two suits and a shirt arrived here in New Zealand in less than two weeks, are well-made, and fit perfectly. I'm thrilled with the service.”
