Where each one wins — and doesn’t

Zara

A cheap, on-trend suit for someone who needs a look now, wears it occasionally, and isn't paying for cloth or construction longevity.

  • Lowest cost of entry — a full look for ~£100–£140 with easy try-on and returns
  • Separates sizing lets you size jacket and trousers independently
  • Fast, trend-current styling refreshed every season
  • Fully fused, mostly polyester — poor breathability, drape and longevity
  • No made-to-measure; off-the-peg fit only
  • Fast-fashion quality varies batch to batch; not built for frequent wear

Next

Value shoppers who want a wide choice of colours, fits and fabrics online — a cheap stretch commuter suit or an on-sale Signature Italian-cloth jacket.

  • Enormous selection with separates sizing and frequent below-ticket sale pricing
  • Motionflex 4-way-stretch suits at very low prices for travel and commuting
  • Signature tier uses named Italian mill cloths — a genuine cloth step-up for the high street
  • Fused across the range, including Signature — no canvassed option
  • Entry and Motionflex lines are polyester-heavy performance blends
  • No true MTM despite the "Made-To-Measure" page label; alterations on the customer

WOW! Ordered a suit online with Linda. She contacted me by video call to go through the measuring process and once confirmed measurements again, around 4 weeks later a made to measure suit arrived in the UK. Fitted perfectly and I didn't even visit! Fantastic quality and customer service from Linda. Would definitely recommend!

Exceptional experience from start to finish. I ordered a fully custom two-piece double-breasted suit remotely from France, Linda and Jennifer guided me through every step with patience and professionalism. The suit arrived in under 3 weeks and the result is flawless: fabric, cut, lining, silhouette, everything is perfect. Nathan Tailors delivered exactly the vision I had in mind. I will absolutely be ordering again. Highly recommended.

This was my first time buying suits online so I was a bit apprehensive. However, the online order form was both easy to use and very thorough, and they did a video call with me to make sure of a couple of measurements that were out of the normal range. Two suits and a shirt arrived here in New Zealand in less than two weeks, are well-made, and fit perfectly. I'm thrilled with the service.

Zara vs Next — common questions

Are Zara and Next owned by the same company?

No. Zara: Inditex S.A. (Spain — also owns Massimo Dutti). Next: Next plc (LSE: NXT — also majority owner of Reiss). They are unrelated businesses that compete in the same segment.

Is Zara or Next cheaper?

Next is cheaper all-in at $159 (entry $109) versus Zara at $180 (entry $130). The "all-in" figure includes typical alterations so off-the-rack and custom compare fairly.

Does Zara or Next use better construction?

Zara is fused (glued) and Next is fused (glued). Canvassed jackets drape better and last far longer than fused (glued) ones, which is the quality line that matters most at this price.

Which is better value, Zara or Next?

By construction and customization per dollar, Next scores 27/100. For reference, a true half-canvas bespoke suit cut to your body at Nathan Tailors in Hoi An starts at $149 — better make and more personalisation than either, for less money.

Can I order Zara or Next online / remotely?

Zara: In-store or online; separates sizing in slim/skinny and regular fits; no fitting service. Next: Online-first with in-store stock at larger branches; separates sized independently; skinny/slim/tailored/regular/muscle fits. If you're ordering remotely, the safest path is a tailor who reviews your measurements before cutting — Nathan Tailors does this over WhatsApp and ships worldwide in 2–3 weeks.
