Are Ted Baker suits fused or canvassed?

What Ted Baker says
- The suits and suit-jackets collections list 143 suit products whose descriptions give only generic materials ("Wool", "Linen", "Cotton Blend"). No canvas, half-canvas, fused, mill or Super number appears anywhere.12
- USD pricing on tedbaker.com, most on 30 to 40% promo: CLASSIC Wool Suit Jacket $387; WINFRED Plaid Tailored Blazer $399; WEBSTER Velvet Tuxedo Jacket $395; WINFRED Linen Modern Fit Suit Jacket $289; WINTER Textured Wool Suit Pants $189; WINTER Linen Suit Pant $149.1
- Authentic Brands Group, the brand owner, announced on 2024-08-01 that Peerless takes Ted Baker "tailored clothing, dress shirts and outerwear" for the US and Canada, United Legwear takes sportswear and the tedbaker.us/.ca sites, and BCI Brands takes women's categories.5
What buyers and reviewers report
- Peerless lists Ted Baker London and "Ted by Ted Baker" among its men's brands, confirming the licence is live, but publishes no construction spec.34
- Corporate chain: ABG completed the £211m acquisition in October 2022; the UK/EU retail company went into administration in March 2024; all US and Canadian stores shut in April 2024; the last UK and Irish stores closed in August 2024; tedbaker.com relaunched in November 2024 operated by United Legwear & Apparel Co.6
- The separate US wholesale line "Ted by Ted Baker" runs cheaper at Macy's: suit separates roughly $200 to $480, clearance $120 to $288.8
- Contradiction, both older than 2024 and both forum-sourced: one 2014 poster said "Ted Baker I think is Jack Victor, also Montreal, almost certainly half-canvas", while a Nordstrom rep quoted the same week said Ted Baker was made in Montreal, owned by Jack Victor, and fused 7. Owners of the old "Endurance" suits reported them "fused all the way" in 2011 9. None of this describes the current Peerless-made tailoring.79
How to tell in the store (and what the pinch test cannot prove)
- The standard instruction: pinch the sleeve first for a baseline, because sleeves are never canvassed, then pinch the cloth below the lowest buttonhole and pull the layers apart. Three layers means a canvas is floating inside; two layers means fused.1112
- The catch most brand pages leave out: on a half-canvassed jacket the front below the second button is fused anyway, so a low pinch on a half-canvas jacket feels exactly like a fused one. The definitive statement of this is a 2012 Put This On piece; no newer primary write-up of the limitation was found, and current how-to pages repeat the test without the caveat.10
- Every jacket, fused, half-canvas or full-canvas, has a floating chest piece, so feeling a distinct layer at the chest proves nothing.10
- Net result: a low pinch that finds a floating third layer proves full canvas; a low pinch that finds nothing means fused or half-canvas, and the test cannot separate those two. Salespeople who can make the call are, in the same source's words, "very, very hard to find". The only reliable route is the brand's own published statement, which is why this page separates what the brand says from what buyers report.1011
- Hand-feel is weaker evidence than it used to be: fusing "has gotten a lot better nowadays and is not always as stiff", which makes construction harder to judge by touch.12
- Working sleeve buttons are not a construction signal. They now appear from Savile Row down to budget high-street retailers, and once the buttonholes are cut, sleeve-length alterations get harder.13
“Ordered two suits and four shirts, remotely from the US. They fit great and are great quality! Was able to do everything over WhatsApp for measurements, etc. Will definitely visit if I ever make it to Hoi An. Highly recommend!”
“Being a short and stocky person, I could never truly get clothing that fitted properly. "Off the rack" was never an option... As I opened the small box, I got nervous and wondered if I made a big mistake and basically gambled away a fair amount of money. I ordered a 3 piece suit, 2 shirts and had a pair of leather dress shoes. Everything fitted nicely... the shirts were absolutely PERFECT.”
“Very satisfied; incredibly skillful to make clothes fit so perfectly. Beautiful fabric exactly as promised, very neat — would simply love to order from here again!”
“They did such an amazing job, my suit fits perfectly and the craftsmanship is superb! Linda was a great help and she knows exactly what she is doing. I can't recommend this place enough and I will be getting more suits from them in the future guaranteed!”
“Great place to get perfect suit, they send me to Poland with no problems.”
“WOW! Ordered a suit online with Linda. She contacted me by video call to go through the measuring process and once confirmed measurements again, around 4 weeks later a made to measure suit arrived in the UK. Fitted perfectly and I didn't even visit! Fantastic quality and customer service from Linda. Would definitely recommend!”
“Exceptional experience from start to finish. I ordered a fully custom two-piece double-breasted suit remotely from France, Linda and Jennifer guided me through every step with patience and professionalism. The suit arrived in under 3 weeks and the result is flawless: fabric, cut, lining, silhouette, everything is perfect. Nathan Tailors delivered exactly the vision I had in mind. I will absolutely be ordering again. Highly recommended.”
“This was my first time buying suits online so I was a bit apprehensive. However, the online order form was both easy to use and very thorough, and they did a video call with me to make sure of a couple of measurements that were out of the normal range. Two suits and a shirt arrived here in New Zealand in less than two weeks, are well-made, and fit perfectly. I'm thrilled with the service.”
