What size Next suit am I?

Buy your measured chest: Next publishes body figures, labelled "to fit", in centimetres first, from 86.5 cm (34") to 132 cm (52") 1. The reason to care is length. Next offers four jacket lengths — Short, Regular, Long and X-Long — where Charles Tyrwhitt, T.M. Lewin and Moss stop at Long, and the full span is 9 cm (about 3.5") of body length at the same chest 1. Trousers come in five named inseams from 66 cm to 86.5 cm 1.

What Next publishes

  • The size guide lives in the help centre rather than on the shop, and it is the reliable source — next.co.uk itself refuses automated readers while the help centre does not.1
  • The tables are labelled "to fit", so the chest figure is your body, not the garment, and they lead with centimetres. The measuring instruction is verbatim: "Measure around the fullest part of the chest with the tape measure high up under the arms."1
  • That is the opposite convention to Moss and T.M. Lewin, which publish garment numbers — which is why a Next 40 and a Moss 40 are not the same jacket. Moss's 40 is a 41" garment chest; Next's 40 (101.5 cm) is a 40" body chest.12
  • Four jacket lengths, and X-Long is consistently +3 cm on Long. At a 101.5 cm (40") to-fit chest the back lengths run 77.5 / 80.5 / 83.5 / 86.5 cm across Short, Regular, Long and X-Long — a 9 cm span at one chest size. For a tall buyer that is the single most useful fact about Next.1
  • Jacket range is a 34–52" to-fit chest (86.5–132 cm).1
  • Trousers come in five named, ready-hemmed inseams: Short 66 cm, Regular 71 cm, Long 76 cm, X-Long 81.5 cm and XX-Long 86.5 cm or more — the widest ready-hemmed range in this batch, and the opposite strategy to T.M. Lewin's single unfinished 36" leg.12
  • Formal shirt collars are published in both units from 12" / 30.5 cm to 21" / 53.5 cm. That ladder appears to span more than the adult menswear line at the bottom end, so treat the smallest collars as boys' sizing unless confirmed on the men's shelf.1
  • One quiet advantage over T.M. Lewin: Next does publish a 40.5 cm collar (16"), rounding to the half-centimetre rather than the whole one, so its ladder has no missing-40 gap.1
  • Next also hosts other brands' size guides as PDFs on its own CDN — including a Ted Baker men's guide — which is a useful back door when a brand's own chart will not render.13

Does it run small or large?

  • No consensus. No reliable current aggregated buyer report on Next suit sizing was found, so no direction is asserted here. What can be relied on is the published "to fit" body chest: measure yourself and read the row.1

“Being a short and stocky person, I could never truly get clothing that fitted properly. "Off the rack" was never an option... As I opened the small box, I got nervous and wondered if I made a big mistake and basically gambled away a fair amount of money. I ordered a 3 piece suit, 2 shirts and had a pair of leather dress shoes. Everything fitted nicely... the shirts were absolutely PERFECT.”

“This was my first time buying suits online so I was a bit apprehensive. However, the online order form was both easy to use and very thorough, and they did a video call with me to make sure of a couple of measurements that were out of the normal range. Two suits and a shirt arrived here in New Zealand in less than two weeks, are well-made, and fit perfectly. I'm thrilled with the service.”

Questions people ask

Are Next suit measurements my body or the jacket?

Your body. The tables are labelled "to fit", and the instruction is to measure "around the fullest part of the chest with the tape measure high up under the arms" 1.

Does Next sell extra-long jackets?

Yes — X-Long is a fourth length, consistently 3 cm longer than Long, giving a 9 cm span from Short to X-Long at the same chest 1. Most UK brands stop at Long.

What trouser lengths does Next offer?

Five, ready hemmed: Short 66 cm, Regular 71 cm, Long 76 cm, X-Long 81.5 cm and XX-Long from 86.5 cm 1.

Is a Next 40 the same as a Moss 40?

No. Next's 40 is a 40" body chest; Moss's 40 is a 41" garment chest, because Moss publishes the garment and Next publishes the body 12.

Do Next suits run small?

No consensus — no reliable current buyer aggregation exists for Next suiting 1. Read the "to fit" row against your own tape instead.
