Do J.Crew Ludlow suits run small or large?

What J.Crew publishes
- The men's size chart carries "Suiting" as its own category, with an IN / CM toggle publishing both unit systems for the same rows.1
- These are body measurements. The Measuring Guide on the same page tells you to measure yourself: "Measure under your arms around the fullest part of your chest."1
- Arm length is defined as a total body arm measurement from the neck, not a sleeve length: "Hold the tape at the center back of your neck. Measure across your shoulder to your elbow and down to your wrist." Measure a shirt sleeve and compare it to this column and you will size wrong.1
- The chart is alpha and the jackets are numeric. The sitewide Suiting chart runs XS–XXL; the Ludlow jacket size menu sells 34/S, 36/S, 36/R, 38/S, 38/R, 40/S, 40/R, 40/L. Read together, the alpha row is the numeric size: M = 38–40" chest = a 38 or 40 jacket.12
- Short and Long carry a published garment delta, which few brands give: "Garment body length is 1 1/4" shorter and sleeve length is 1" shorter than regular sizes" for Short, and the same figures longer for Long. The chest rows are identical across all three; only the arm-length column shifts.1
- Both are "Catalog/jcrew.com only", so an in-store fitting can only confirm Regular.1
- The published US ↔ UK ↔ EU conversion is the flat +10 with US = UK: 38 / 38 / 48, 40 / 40 / 50, 42 / 42 / 52. J.Crew stamps it with its own disclaimer — "All conversions are approximate. Fits may vary by style or personal preference; sizes may vary by manufacturer."1

- The matching trouser reads "Fits true to size based on 63 reviews" at 4.9 stars. On Ludlow the consensus is true to size, not run-small, which contradicts the folk rule that a slim fit needs sizing up.5
- Dissent exists and is visible on the same page, but attributed to a mislabel rather than the pattern: "my size was mismarked as a 36S, but it was really a 34S. Other than this factory sizing error, this is a 'go to' product."4
- Fit-model reference points published alongside: the jacket "Model is 6'1" wearing size 40R", the trouser "Model is 6'1" wearing size 32/32".23
If you get the size wrong
